The Master's programme in Regional Science/Spatial Planning is being discontinued, which means that no further students will be accepted from the 2026/27 winter semester onwards. Students currently enrolled can complete their studies as normal.
From the 2027/28 winter semester onwards, a new English-language programme on equitable urban research is planned in collaboration with the Institute of Geography and Geoecology (IfGG) and the Faculty of Architecture.

The German-Chilean master's programme focuses on risk-oriented spatial planning and regional development, taking into account its social, ecological and economic dimensions. Students learn to analyse conflicts over land use in the context of social, ecological and economic developments in an interdisciplinary manner, to develop solutions and to implement them using appropriate management tools.
The German-Chilean master's programme is offered in cooperation with the Universidad de Concepción (UdeC) in Chile. At the UdeC, the three faculties of Environmental Sciences, Social Sciences, and Architecture, Urban Planning and Geography are involved in this programme.
The programme structure, which is closely linked to the other master's programmes at the IfR, plays a key role in helping students to network internationally during their studies and sharpen their intercultural sensitivity.
