Based on a regional analysis, the area of application of regional science covers the formulation of adapted spatial development concepts across all planning levels from urban layout to regional and country planning. Also in this area of appliction, the focus is put on the special challenges of underdevelopment and the development of strategies of adaptive land use management, including
- the analysis and further development of concepts and instruments for regional planning and development in developing and newly industrialized countries,
- the analysis and management of intercultural challenges related to transborder spatial planning,
- the analysis of processes related to urban development/urban structure and course of action.
